Concealed Handgun Permit Course & Dry Fire Symposium – Cameo, CO

Date(s) - 02/25/2023

Cameo Shooting & Educational Complex

This Concealed Handgun Permit Course & Dry Fire Symposium is a full day training event delving deeply into the legal, mindset and practical applications of owning or carrying a handgun for the defense of life, while also teaching handgun dry fire skills for those attending so they can find both the fun and skills growth that comes with personal dry fire practice on their own.

For the full day, we will start at 8:30 am and end around 5 pm’ish, meeting in the upstairs loft classroom at the excellent Cameo Shooting & Education Complex near Grand Junction and Palisade, CO.

*****NOTE: This training day is split into two different modules for those who only want to attend one or the other.
The morning portion is the Concealed Handgun Permit Course, starting at 8:30 am and ending around noon.
The afternoon portion is the Dry Fire Symposium, starting at 1 pm and ending around 5 pm.

Please park in the south lot next to the main Cameo building and enter through the side door where the large garage doors are located. Once inside the main building, take the stairs to the upstairs classroom.

Directions to Cameo:
From the GJ area, take I-70 East past the Palisade. Take Exit 45 and go under the interstate bridge, following the road and the signs for Cameo. Once your cross the Colorado River, you’ll see the huge American flag flying above the complex by the main building.
Please park in the large parking lot south of the main building and enter through the side door by the large garage doors (NOT through the office). We will be in the upstairs classroom.

Defenders USA’s CHP / CCW Course meets and surpasses the requirements for a Colorado Concealed Carry Weapons permit. Our CHP / CCW Course addresses:

  • Use of force in defense of your life and of others,
  • Colorado defensive firearm and conceal carry laws,
  • Use and carry of CHP/CCW on property, businesses, vehicles, and in the home,
  • Firearm safety,
  • and much more

This CHP Course has becoming renown as likely of the most in-depth and extensive CHP / CCW Courses available in the Colorado. So, even if you already have a CHP / CCW permit and had gone through a different training course for that permit, we encourage you to consider attending this course also. It is very common for those who’ve been through other courses somewhere else but then attend ours to inform us that they learned more in our CHP / CCW and other firearms courses than anywhere else. It’s simply because we’ve seen too many victims of violent crime and we want to help people best survive in an unfortunate situation in order to bring as much high quality education and training to as many people as we can.

You will not need to bring a handgun to this course, though you are more than welcome to bring one. We simply ask that you leave that handgun alone in a case or it’s holster and not bring it out unless asked to do so and with the supervision of the instructor. We will provide everything you will need for this course, unless you want to bring something to eat or a non-alcoholic drink during the course.

For those who provably attended any other CO CHP / CCW Course within the last two (2) years, we urge you to also attend and we offer this CHP / CCW course at 50% the normal costs. We have consistently found such attendees are very surprised by how much they will learn in comparison to what they’d previously attended.
For those who fit this category, please call instead of registering online.

For those who’ve attended our CCW Course in the past, our CCW Courses are ALWAYS open to you for FREE at anytime. We have so many who repeat this class, due to the depth and detail of this training, which we encourage everyone to do, so if you’d like to attend again, please just let us know and we’ll get you registered at no cost. We are grateful to you for having attended at least once previously and we’d always love to see you again!

If you have any further questions or to assist in any way, please feel free to call us at 970-986-0774 or contact us by email at

This training will be indoor and is offered because handgun owners have a legal, ethical and moral responsibility to grow and refine our handgun handling and shooting skills, much of which can be done in the comfort of our homes through thoughtful, deliberate dryfire practice, both isolating parts at times and combining it all together for growth. Learning how to train dry fire is an essential skill to push past plateaus, as you are your best trainer.

Come find the fun and handgun skills growth that does come through dry fire under supportive, expert instruction, and learn to build and vary your own dry fire routines that don’t get old, continue to be enjoyable, and absolutely does make you a better handler and shooter.

This is a very comprehensive training course, addressing everything from grip, stance, draws, and far more, in order to make the draw more efficient and translating into far better shooting when using a live handgun. This training will require a lot of focus, being open to new or better information and technique, and absolute personal honesty…this will make more sense in the class.

We will grow into using a gun in non-conventional range methods, meaning when forced to use it defensively and as in a fight, and not as if just standing static on a line at the range. This portion will be moderately physical, with everyone doing as much of this as able, with movement involved and drawing and using the gun from the ground and in awkward positions.

If time permits, we will also have a few Airsoft handguns that allows for seeing what it’s like to actually have to face someone who is also armed, helping you see where your own skills break down and need focused attention in training.

*****OF NOTE: No matter the condition of your handgun when you arrive, please LEAVE IT ALONE until directed otherwise!!
If you arrive with a loaded, concealed handgun, please DO NOT touch the handgun until directed to do so.
If arriving with a downloaded or boxed handgun, please LEAVE IT ALONE.
*****There will be a very strict process for removing any live ammo and verifying any and all live ammo is removed and taken away, and that all handguns are downloaded and confirmed as such.

Items Needed:
– Handgun & two magazines (NO LIVE AMMUNITION once the downloading process is competed and verified)
(There will be multiple H&K VP9 handguns with holsters you are welcome to try out if needing a handgun)
