Testimonials

“As everyone knows I love to ride my horses more than anything. Life has a funny way of bringing other things into our lives that is more important than just having fun, but has a purpose. I haven’t always liked guns, but when I took the time to learn and be comfortable with them, I found a part time hobby I truly enjoy. A couple of years ago, I took a basic home safety gun course with nothing to really base my knowledge on. I wasn’t really sure what I was doing, I just knew I wanted to be safe and use my 2nd amendment rights in case the need should arise. I’m going to break down the 2 differences of a course I took a couple years ago and the course I took a couple of weeks ago.  I want to point out some major differences through my personal experiences on both courses and hopefully help others understand why the best training and skills are so important.

Let me explain this “other” course first from 2 years ago and how I felt after I completed the course. The instructors taught us some basic techniques that I thought were pretty good at the time. Target shooting behind a barricade of some sort, using our sights to be able to aim and shoot at a center target for most effective stopping power, learning a few things on the law side that at the time was very helpful since I didn’t really know anything about this topic to begin with. I still felt somewhere in this course that something was missing, and that all of the information that I was given was not complete enough for me to really understand the “concepts” of what I was doing. This was a 2 day course with a little bit of Colorado law thrown in the middle of it. It was also on the edge of just plain boring! After the second day of monotone voices and reading the handouts I was ready to just be done and move on. I thought there should have been a certain type of energy level that made you think about what could go wrong in a bad situation.  I left this course with a certificate to be able to get my Concealed Carry Permit and I did that the following week. I went to shooting practices a couple times a month to just keep me refreshed and familiar with my gun. Then I went about my life and was just comfortable having it on me for those just in case moments. I thought this was it, I’m ready.  Boy was I completely wrong! (That’s hard to swallow)

Last month a friend of mine convinced me to go to another Concealed carry course on a Friday night. I gave her a few excuses as to why I really didn’t need to go and that I already have one. Still she was very persistent and I eventually agreed to go. I walked in to the classroom not really wanting to listen to anymore monotone voices and I already knew the basics of what I needed to know. The female mind can be stubborn sometimes (yes really), and let’s just say I had a chip on my shoulder and I didn’t really want to be there.

The class began and I was more or less doodling on paper and wasn’t paying attention. The instructor, Adam Winch, Owner of Defenders USA, starting talking about Colorado gun laws that I was not familiar with. I began to pay a little bit more attention and listen more closely. He had this excitement in his voice, a kind of passion that tends to capture ones attention. He keeps you on your toes with humor, questions and really challenges your knowledge in the classroom. Everyone is involved and not a dull or boring moment to be had.  I took out my notebook and starting taking a few notes. I am the kind of person that loves to learn, and as the class continued I was in complete amazement of the caliber of knowledge he had.  It was mostly new, a few things I did remember but for the most part knowledge I didn’t have. I knew I needed to look into this course a little bit more as I am now thinking what else can this course teach me to be a better, more responsible gun owner.

Adam teaches introductory, defensive and more advanced tactical handgun training along with some other courses as his background is absolutely top notch. With Military, Police and Swat experience behind him, he has a different, more exciting way to teach then what I was used to.  The technique and concepts he teaches are more practical and functional in safety and skill that really took this course to the next level of amazing. I finally found what was lacking in the course I took 2 years prior; excitement, fun, high energy and most of all complete understanding of what comes with the responsibility of owning a gun on an emotional, mental and physical level and what to do to prepare you for defending not only yourself should the moment arise, but those you love as well. Adam even offers an all ladies course and teaches to all ages and experience levels alike.

The 2 day shooting course, known as the Defender Series I signed up for was absolutely phenomenal. I had the pleasure of taking this course with a few of his military buddies that were in town over that particular weekend. Learning to shoot with proper stance, the right grip, and other fundamentals that he teaches were key in order for me to stay on my game to shoot with the boys.  The step by step teaching process that Adam uses from the beginning of the 1st class to the end of the 2nd day tactical class was easy to learn and helped us learn a lot of advanced movements in a very short amount of time. It was fun, challenging and the amount of knowledge that comes from taking this course has put my shooting skills in a higher caliber than ever before.

I left this course with a complete understanding of not only being comfortable as a gun owner, but with the preparedness of possibly having to one day pull the trigger on a potential threat to me, a loved one or a fellow civilian.  I now believe that the mental awareness of the aftermath is just as important as the skill required to know how to take down a potential threat. Adam goes into that as well, in detail. This course covers everything you need to know and in my opinion, the best is worth every penny when it’s this important!!

If you are looking to sharpen your shooting skills, learn in detail about defensive and tactical handgun preparation or just want to learn the basics, this class isn’t just for you, it’s for everyone. I am so glad I walked into that class room and I am so grateful that Adam proved me completely wrong.”
