Intro to Defensive Shooting – Cortez, CO

Date
Date(s) - 04/17/2016

Location
Four Corners Rifle and Pistol Club

We highly recommend the Intro to Defensive Shooting (ITDS) be taken in addition to the CCW Course to continue on with realistic defensive handgun training. This is ideal for those who aren’t able to attend a full Defenders Series. The ITDS consists of learning or improving a natural stance, proper handling, draw stroke, recoil management, intuitive unsighted and sighted fire, and more, creating combat accuracy while building speed and efficiency that works well with what the body does naturally when in fear and under high stress. Our students leave the range with realistic defensive fighting knowledge, experience, and confidence as well as having a great time.

Items needed for the ITDS:
– Handgun
– Holster
– 3 magazines (if using a semi-automatic handgun)
– 300 – 450 rounds of ammunition for semi-autos; 200-250 if using a revolver
– Eye & ear protection
– any non-alcoholic liquids to drink and any food / snacks you might want

This four to five hour training course will challenge the students, from the beginner to anyone who already has extensive firearms training. All will end having learned quite a lot and with new or refreshed defensive fighting handgun skills.

“Empowering, Life-Changing, Outstanding”

When I first sat down to write this review of the Defenders USA “Defenders Series” firearms training course, words escaped me. I was unable to put anything down to explain what this course was all about and what it really meant to me. After a little thought over the past couple of weeks, I can finally begin to express how I feel about Adam’s course and explain how it has made myself and my peers true Defenders.

I didn’t really know what to expect when I walked into the classroom the first of a three-day course. Would I truly learn anything? Is this a waste of my own personal time? These are just a couple of questions that crossed my mind before walking in the doors.

It didn’t take long for me to decide that it was silly to have had any doubts about the “Defenders Series” course. Adam’s teaching style, while a bit gruff at times, really hit the point home that everyone should have some level of defensive training. He really makes you think critically about the safety of yourself and others, accept the possibility that you may find yourself in a situation where lethal force may be necessary, and equips you with the tools to be effective in such an encounter.

Adam’s personal experience as a Soldier, Police Officer, and in S.W.A.T. brings real-life knowledge to the classroom. The stories shared help the average course-taker to visualize the reality of the many dangers of life in our world and helps to transform their minds into understanding that reality. Without this key focus, it could be likened to a basic firearms safety course. This is one of many things that set the Defenders USA course apart from the rest that I’ve taken.

Another part of the course involves live-fire sessions on a firing range. This is the most interesting part of the course. After many hours in the classroom, this section finally puts the class work into practice. Firing on the range is so crucially important in a course like this. Many people who take part in firearms courses have never handled a firearm. Anyone can sit in a classroom and be told how to properly use a firearm; but without hands on training, how can you be sure that they will when it comes time for them to defend their life or the lives of others? Adam pushes his classes hard. The time on the range is the most intense, and is also the most enjoyable. Things get a little hectic with Adam and all of his colleagues shouting firing orders while there are multiple shooters on the line, but a safe environment is satisfactorily kept at all times while live ammunition is being used.

The “Defenders Series” course is a real ‘eye-opener’ to most everyone involved. This course gives you a sense of empowerment and security in knowing that you now have the tools to defend life in the face of danger. I would recommend this training to anyone who is willing to accept it.
