The Rifle & Carbine Applications 1 is an excellent training to help prepare and train you learn to handle, shoot, and defensively use the AR-15 and other fighting rifles or carbines, taught by Defenders USA’s Adam Winch.
The training will begin at 9 am at the Maricopa Adventure Shooting Range and end around 5 to 5:30 pm near the city of Maricopa, AZ.
This course is a one-day training experience teaching basic to more advanced rifle or carbine shooting, handling, loading and re-loading, ballistics, zeroing, manipulation, defensive concerns, posture, and shooting, close-quarters and longer-range precision shooting, along with a lot more.
The day is filled with live fire on the range and honing rifle and carbine shooting skills, while also addressing legal and physical concerns related to using this type of firearm in close quarters and urban environments.
We consider this course to be moderately physical. Most find it is a challenging and fun, while also helping those attending to develop skill and confidence with their rifle or carbine, no matter each’s beginning abilities and skills.
Most will bring an AR-15 / M4-based weapons platform but we often see other platforms during this course, such as the AK varients, the Tavor, Styer, and other bull-pups, the Mini-14, M-14, AR-10, and others. We’ve had 9mm, .45, .223, 5.56, 7.62, .308, and other calibers in this course. Of note to us that was truly a lot of fun and hilarious, we’ve even had a lever-action rifle in this course (a fantastic defensive rifle in the hands of a trained user).
Needed items:
– Rifle / Carbine with open sights and/or optics
– Three magazines
– 350 – 650 rounds of ammo (let us know if you need ammo for this course).
– Eye & Ear protection
– Non-alcoholic beverages & any food / snacks you may want (it’s easiest to bring all food for the day)
– Appropriate clothing and gear for outdoor environments (rain / cold weather gear, sunscreen, bug spray, head cover, etc.)
***Note: a sling on your weapon is strongly, strong suggested; feel free to contact us about recommended slings and gear.
– Any food and liquids needed throughout the day. There aren’t any restaurants nearby and we will not have time to leave the range to go get food.
– Appropriate clothing for the predicted weather of that day.
– A hat with a front brim, such as a baseball hat
Range Fee:
There is a $30 cash range fee per person that will be collected at the beginning of the day and it will be given to Archangel Adventure Shooting Range to cover the range fees.
Optional items:
– Magazine holder(s)
– a mat or blanket for ground or prone work and shooting (shooting mat, yoga mat, etc.)
– a sand sock
– something to prop the rifle on during prone shooting
– chair
– sunscreen & bug repellent
Lodging:
There are hotels in or near the city of Maricopa, AZ and the Harrah’s AK-Chin Hotel & Casino is nearby.
You can also contact and reserve a camping spot at Archangel Adventure Shooting Range for campers and RV’s right by the range. It is dry camping only without electrical / sewage / water hook-ups but generators are welcome.
Feel free to call Adam if you have questions about your rifle, its set up, and other related gear. We want to assure a minimum of down time fixing problems at the beginning of the training day and to ensure you get as much skill and knowledge transfer as possible out of your experience.
Come ready to learn, shoot, and build skill and confidence. You will learn to shoot well and even defend life with your firearm. Your body will feel it the next day or two after; proof that you learned a lot and worked hard, and challenged yourself while growing efficiency and skill.
This course will be taught by Adam Winch, Defenders USA’s founder and lead instructor, who has over two decades of US Army and Law Enforcement / SWAT experience, and has trained tens of thousands of people in firearms skills.
