3 Day Handgun – Fundamentals to Advanced – Boulder, MT

    DAY 1:

Defenders USA’s Grow & Master Handgun Fundamentals is perfect for the brand new or novice handgun user who wants to grow, ability, confidence and skill in their handling, use, and shooting a handgun safely and accurately.

This is not a fast paced-class; it is a thoughtful, careful training session in order to build skill and confidence. We will focus completely on getting the fundamentals exactly correct and repeatable for each person, with safe, correct handling and accuracy as a result of good fundamentals.

It is ALSO excellent for the veteran handgun user who wants to revisit the fundamentals to increase and fine-tune their skills, as the fundamentals are foundational to all good shooting. Even if you see yourself as a good shooter, you absolutely will learn in this class and it will change some or much of how you handle a gun and shoot, causing guaranteed improvements that will surprise you.

If the class as a general whole shows high proficiency in the above areas quickly, we will move into using a handgun with speed while also still engaging in precision.

We’ll start at 8:30 am at the Last Chance Handgunners – High Ore Range in Bay #1 and end around 5:30 pm, depending on several factors such as weather, temperatures, etc.

    Location:

Last Chance Handgunners – High Ore Range:
    230 Cattle Drive Rd.
    Boulder, MT 59632
    Range Fee:

There is a Range Fee of $10 per person per day that will be collected in cash before the beginning of the class, so please bring that range fee with you. The range is a non-profit so all range fees will be donated to the Semper Fi Fund.

We will focus on safe, efficient handling and accuracy with a handgun, building your confidence in the use of and shooting a handgun.

There will also be a Handgun Concepts: Speed, Accuracy & Movement the next day, and a Fighting Handgun Concepts class on the third day.
Each class builds on the previous and we urge you to register for the next day or the two following days of training to truly grow your defensive skills with a handgun.

If you have a safe or quality holster for your handgun, you will also be learning how to draw and re-holster correctly and safely. If you do not have a holster for your handgun, that is not a problem.

If you want to get a quality holster for before this class, we enthusiastically endorse Brent Hickmon of Haven Defense Co. for an excellent, custom-made holster. Brent is also an instructor with Defenders USA; he and his lovely wife make holsters on a full-time basis for incredible shooters all over America.

    DAY 2:

The Handgun Concepts: Speed, Accuracy & Movement is perfect for the civilian, military, LEO shooter, or competitor who wants to develop their speed and precision from the holster, either concealed or open carry. This is excellent for those who seek to refine in these areas beyond where most training goes, working from either duty gear or from concealment.

This course is intended for those who already have a decent to high degree of skill in basic handgun fundamentals, although we will spend time there as needed.

Of note, if you’ve not attended a previous course with us or do not demonstrate solid proficiency at the beginning of this training course, the instructor can and will, at their discretion, ask you to complete a short, somewhat easy proficiency handling and shooting test that is standardized.
If that test is not passed, you will not be allowed to attend the rest of the training but will be invited to move into one of our Handgun Fundamentals courses at no cost. At the same time, the fee for this course may not be refunded.
If it is not, that fee can be applied to future training with Defenders USA.
Our goal is to keep you and others safe and develop you as a proficient, efficient Defender.

We’ll start at 8:30 am at the Last Chance Handgunners – High Ore Range in Bay #1 and end around 5:30 pm, depending on several factors such as weather, temperatures, etc.

As the title says, this day will focus on building the ability to get a fast first shot from the holster, and then follow up shots, while also being as accurate as the varying targets dictate. We’ll work on accuracy to extreme accuracy first, then build in speed that is efficient in technique. We will then introduce doing all this while moving, refining the skills learned in movement.

A quality holster is a must in this course, so if you aren’t sure if your holster is of decent to good quality, contact us as soon as possible, because if you need a good holster, it will take some time to order one and get it shipped to you.

If you want to get a holster for before this class, we enthusiastically endorse Brent Hickmon of Haven Defense Co. 970-987-3471 and we’ll help you select a high-quality holster versus the less-than-good ones in all the local gun stores.

Doing this course from concealment is recommended but open carry is also just fine for those with duty or competition gear.

This will be a thoughtful, careful training session in order to build skill at explosive speeds. We will be focused completely on getting the objectives of this class exactly right and repeatable for each shooter, with expert nuances built into grip, stance, platform, excellent and speedy draw strokes, and high precision, both up close and at distance, and while shooting in movement. We will also have a focus on helping the students to understand how to diagnose their own work so they can continue refining their abilities long after this class.

    DAY 3:

This Fighting Handgun Concepts is a natural progression beyond Day 1 Fundamentals and Day 2 Speed, Accuracy & Movement. Any of those courses are prerequisites to attend this FHC. It is only intended for the already well-trained civilian, LEO’s, or Mil personnel. If you have questions if you are ready for this course, please contact Adam at the number listed below.

We generally will not accept anyone into the FHC unless solid proficiency has been demonstrated in a previous course or through known, provable prior training and experience. Exceptions can occasionally be made at the discretion of D-USA staff.

This FHC moves quickly to advanced handling and shooting, going into various malfunction drills, one-handed handgun use from an injured fighting use perspective, 360 degree draw strokes, handling, and shooting in/from unorthodox positional fighting that happen so easily in real life incidents, shooting from and best uses of cover and concealment, long range precision shooting, VCQB (meaning handling and shooting in, around, over, under, into, out of, and through vehicles while in close quarters or confinement within vehicles, handling and shooting in extremely close proximity to others, high-stress physical exertion shooting, shooting in movement, shooting in defense of others from multiple positions and locations, extreme precision shooting, and far more.

The students will also engage in realistic scenario-based situations, responding to complex threats and will also need to explain the physical and legal justification(s) for their actions or non-actions. Please check with us if you have any doubts about your physical ability to complete this course, as we are often able to accommodate or modify for specific physical issues.

This is a mentally and physically challenging course, taking the students confidence and ability to defend life with a gun to even higher levels.

    Needed items:
Handgun (or more in case the primary handgun goes down)
    Reliable holster & three magazines
At least 500 to 750 rounds of ammo
    Eye & ear protection
Weather appropriate clothing for an outdoor environment and any wanted
    Food & non-alcoholic beverages
A durable mat (you will be working often from the ground on hard packed dirt and gravel, thus for comfort)
    Sunscreen & bug spray
    A brim hat
A chair (such as a camping chair that can take a small amount of abuse)

The lunch break will not be lengthy and it is highly recommended to bring food for a short lunch break there at the range, as there isn’t any food nearby and we will not have a long enough break for anyone to leave the range.

Call 970-986-0774 with any further questions.
