Handgun Speed, Accuracy & Movement – Mesa, AZ
Location:
Rio Salado Sportsman’s Club
3960 N. Usery Pass Rd, Mesa, AZ 85207
Sunday, Jan. 21st, 2024
8:30 AM – 5 PM
The Handgun Speed, Accuracy & Movement is perfect for the civilian, military, LEO shooter, or competitor who wants to develop their speed and precision from the holster, either concealed or open carry. This is excellent for those who seek to refine in both areas beyond where most training goes, working from either duty gear or from concealment.
This course intended for those who already have the skills of basic handgun safety, handling and fundamentals, although we will spend time there as needed.
Of note, if you’ve not attended a pervious course with us or do not demonstrate solid proficiency at the beginning of this training course, the instructor can and will, at their discretion, ask you to complete a short proficiency handling and shooting test that is standardized. If that test is not passed, you will not be allowed to attend the rest of the training but will be invited to move into one of our Handgun Fundamentals courses at no cost. At the same time, the fee for this course will not be refunded.
We’ll start at 8:30 am at the Rio Salado Sportsman’s Club in Training Bay 1 and end around 5 pm. Training Bay 1 is near the Shotgun area of the range, with a large log wall on the right side. Parking is in the parking lot in front of Bay 1.
Range Fee:
There is also a Range Fee of $15 that will need to be paid in cash prior to the start of the course, so please bring that with you.
As the title says, this day will focus on building the ability to get a fast first shot from the holster, and then follow up shots, while also being as accurate as the varying targets dictate. We’ll work on accuracy first, then build in speed that is efficient in technique. We will then introduce doing all this while moving, refining the skills learned in movement.
A quality holster is a must in this course, so if you aren’t sure if your holster is of decent to good quality, contact us as soon as possible, because if you need a good holster, it will take some time to order one and get it shipped to you.
If you want to get a holster for before this class, we enthusiastically endorse Haven Defense Co. and we’ll help you select a high-quality holster versus the less-than-good ones in all the local gun stores.

Doing this course from concealment is recommended but open carry is also just fine, especially for those with duty or competition gear.
This will be a thoughtful, careful training session in order to build skill at efficient speeds. We will be focused completely on getting the objectives of this class exactly right and repeatable for each shooter, with expert nuisances built into grip, stance, platform, excellent and speedy draw strokes, and high precision, both up close and at distance, and while shooting in movement. We will also have a focus on helping the students to understand how to diagnose their own work so they can continue refining their abilities long after this class.
